Generating your own energy with renewable resources

By generating your own renewable energy, you can lower your ongoing electricity bills and reduce your carbon footprint. Solar is one of the most common ways our customers choose to generate their own energy. Our Customer Connected Solar program can help with information and resources to learn more about installing solar at your home and how to apply for interconnection and net metering with PSE.

Getting started with an installer

Installing rooftop solar panels allows you to generate renewable energy that can be used to power your home and reduce your ongoing electricity bills. Before making a long-term investment in solar, we strongly recommend getting multiple bids and selecting an experienced installer.

Interconnection and net metering with PSE

Interconnection means connecting a solar (or other renewable energy) generating installation to your home’s electrical system. This allows you to draw power from your solar system when it’s available but never lose the benefit and reliability of the PSE grid. When your system generates more power than your home is using, the excess energy goes back onto the PSE grid. When your home is using more power than your system is generating, the PSE grid is there for you.

Net metering lets customer-generators offset their electricity consumption with solar energy production on an annual basis. If you use more energy than you produce during a given bill period, then you pay PSE for your net purchase, plus the basic service charge.
